SAVE THEM.....

Aren't they just magnificent? So calm, so peaceful, so free......so FRAGILE..... Do you know that these giant turtles could be easily killed by a piece of seemingly innocent plastic bag?

Following a blog post by Nicole today, I decided to raise the issue again about saving these giant softie sea creature. Please...please please please do not dispose off garbage especially non-bio- degradable plastic shopping bags into the sea or the beach. Plastic bags can actually cause the death of turtles because they would swallow them, thinking that it's a yummy goody jellyfish, which is their main source of food. Not only will they die, they suffer a long and painful process while dying.

An article from The Daily Telegraph today caught my attention. Go ahead, click here to read.

Lazy? Let me summarise it for you then. This 40 year old giant turtle (pictured above) was found floating in the middle of the ocean near Darwin. She died shortly after being rescued. Why? Because she choked on a piece of plastic bag which was thrown in by irresponsible people. A choked turtle will start vomitting acid forms on their lungs and develop pneumonia. Then, they will be trapped on the water surface and suffer from exhausting and sunburn while desperately trying to swim back underwater. And judging that she has been covered in green slime, its very likely that she has been distressly floating on the water surface for a looong time. Imagine suffering difficulty in breathing while unable to reach for help, feeling as if your lungs are contracting every minute or so. You won't want that to happen to you or anyone you love or care, so why let it happen to these poor innocent creatures?

Please....do not litter into the ocean. Beneath it lies the home of many animals. Preserve the beauty so that your future generations get to enjoy the sight of it. Educate the younger ones, show a good example.
